Early birds: 2010 elections

What a start for 2008 among ‘presidentiables’ for 2010. Since last week, stories have came out regarding the looming comeback of former president Joseph Estrada into the political arena. But administration officials were quick to shot back at rumors, saying that Erap can no longer run for President as he may violate the Constitution.
This is really very early for these ambitious politicians to express their intentions for 2010 elections. Many possible things could happen anytime. The elections last year and most of all the “Hello Garci” scandal are still fresh in the minds of the Filipinos. And now here comes the 2010 election fantasy?
The administration camp is eying Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, QC Mayor Sonny Belmonte and MMDA chief Bayani Fernando. Don’t they anyone else from their arsenal who could match the opposition’s firepower? We all know how strong is the opposition these days. They have senators Ping Lacson, Chiz Escudero (maybe), Manny Villar, Mar Roxas and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.

These politicians could no longer focus on their job because what they have in mind is the 2010 elections. What they are thinking is how to win or where to get the money for the elections. Yes, we understand that it really needs a lot of preparation when you’re running for president. But it’s still very early, I guess.
Who knows, tomorrow GMA and her apostles will announce that they will remain in power beyond 2010.
