As the World Burns: 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Stay in Denial
As I was surfing the web today looking for some interesting books to buy for this year, I stumbled upon this graphic novel written by Derrick Jensen and cartoonist Stephanie McMillan. Seems interesting for me. Aside from I also do cartooning (before and maybe until today), I can use it in my work. It’s very useful in raising awareness regarding the climate change issue today.
The book is published by Seven Stories Press and distributed in Canada by Publishers Group Canada, it will hit the bookstores in January. Hoping to get a copy of this one when it’ll arrive in the Philippines.
Climate change is not a myth, it’s fact. Even in our backywards, we can start mitigating climate change in our own means.
Mitigation is the better option than adaptation, which is pretty expensive for us Filipinos. Like for us in the Philippines, I believe that mitigation is the answer not adaptation. It’s because the impact of climate change on us is not that bad as what other nations or islands in the Pacific Region. We can still do something before we’d reach to the point of adapting the effects of climate change.
Here are some tips to help mitigate climate change.
Let me share this with you, this just a an example of simple mitigation.

When I bought a mini-stool at Victoria Plaza department store last December, the sales attendant wrapped a long plastic cellophane around the chair. If the chair could just scream, it would say: “Please don’t choke me.” I asked the sales attendant why she had to that. She shot back saying, the guards would cut this thing off later, don’t worry sir. I asked her if she could just make it short to help minimize the plastic waste. She didn’t care at all.
My point here is that, store owners too can do something. They can educate their workers. Aside from their contribution in reducing waste disposals, they can save too. Business establishments can also benefit from this.
