Where’s the hook?

Since 1993, I’ve been a fan of the Pinoy rock music. It was then the era of Yano and Eraserheads, they reigned the airwaves. Almost every morning, I could hear most of their famous songs. Well, aside from those legendary bands, I was (and even until now) also a fan of many Pinoy rock of the 90s — Wolfgang, The Youth, Datu’s Tribe, FrancisM, Rivermaya, POT, Razorback, among others.
I regret that I lost most of the tapes I had before. Only few of those tapes left today. It would have been one my best treasures. During those high school days, I used to collect different albums of any Pinoy rock artists. But when I was in college, most of them were borrowed permanently!
Although until today, I still collect ORIGINAL albums on CD of the Pinoy rock bands but most of them (and I’m still looking for) are those who belong in the 90s era of the Pinoy rock.
I could hardly swallow the so-called “Pinoy rock” today. Well, except for those who are still onstage since the 90s era. Today, some of these bands are labeled “pogi rock.” And yet they still make it to the music magazines and being called as “rock bands.” Yuck. I wonder how these bands get better promotions than those who really produce real good music.
Sorry but my ears still embrace the sound of the 90’s era of Pinoy Rock. IF there are bands today that I would listen to, they are those who belonged to the 90’s era and made a big comeback today and produce more mature and more great music. As I’ve observed, of the 10 songs played on the pinoy rock programs of some radio stations not just in Davao City, 60-70% of the songs are coming from the 90’s era of Pinoy rock. Given the fact that there are a lot of bands today have recored and produce their own albums because of the more accessible and sophisticated technology.
But still, the bands today may have not captured the so-called “hook” in writing their songs( If I could remember it right). I’m not really “hooked” with the way some of the bands produce their music today. Only few, but they are these bands or musicians who have been onstage since I was in high school. I don’t want to name them but it’s obvious, I think.
